Credit Counseling – What is it and how can it help?

An individual has to take a credit counseling course before filing for bankruptcy. The course can be completed through numerous vendors, online or over the phone from the comfort of home.

Credit counseling is a required step in the bankruptcy process designed to help consumers understand their pre-bankruptcy finances. Through an abridged financial education, the course also aims to teach consumers how to avoid falling into debt after exiting bankruptcy. The course takes about an hour and must be completed within six months of filing for bankruptcy.
